The USA basketball team wants to keep extending their superiority in the Games, with the best NBA players joining forces to clinch the gold medal.

Everything is ready in Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games to take place. The best athletes in the world will gather in the French capital for two weeks, as they will be looking to captivate their fans and countries with their performances.

As it tends to happen in every Summer Games over the last few years, there are a lot of expectations surrounding the USA basketball team. Why? Because they have been dominating the Olympic tournament for a long time.

The tournament has been played on 20 occasions, with the Americans winning it 16 times. The other nations that managed to surprise the USA were the former Soviet Union twice (1972, 1988), former Yugoslavia (1980), and more recently Argentina (2004).

But the USA team and the basketball event got a huge boost in the 1992 Barcelona Games. Known as the Dream Team, it’s considered the best basketball team ever, with superstars Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird leading a series of top-class players that humiliated every team they faced.

Team USA Basketball: which players will compete at the Olympics?

In an attempt to bring the excitement that team provided worldwide and secure another gold medal, some of the best NBA players have been selected to play in the Paris Olympics.

The roster, led by coach Steve Kerr, will try to win their fifth consecutive gold medal since 2004. They will play in Group C, along with Serbia, Puerto Rico, and South Sudan.

12 NBA stars will represent the men’s USA basketball team, including three-time Olympic champion Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns) and the NBA’s all-time scoring leader LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers), who’s looking to win his third Olympic gold. However, Durant, who’s dealing with some injury issues, won’t be able to play in the opener.

KD and James will play alongside Stephen Curry, Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum, Devin Booker, Jrue Holiday, Anthony Davis, Anthony Edwards, Bam Adebayo, Derrick White, and Tyrese Haliburton.

The Americans will be looking to make an impact in the Summer Olympics after their disappointing fourth place in the last World Cup when they finished in the fourth spot after losing to Canada in the bronze medal game.

The men’s tournament begins on July 27, with Lebron & co. featuring in their opening match against Serbia on July 28.
