Women’s golf tournament at the 2024 Olympics in Paris: Round 2 Thursday tee times and featured groups
France’s Céline Boutier has taken early control at Le Golf National, with favourite Nelly Korda of Team USA several shots back after round one.
Home favourite Céline Boutier of France took early control of the women’s golf tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, posting a 7-under par 65 in the first round at Le Golf National to take a three-shot lead over South Africa’s Ashleigh Buhai into Thursday’s round two.
How did Nelly Korda and Team USA golfers perform in the first round?
World number one Nelly Korda, the favourite to win a second golf medal in succession, is seven shots back on level par, as is fellow American Rose Zhang. Lilia Vu is the best-placed of the three members of Team USA after shooting a 2-under par 70 in the opening round.
Although Korda has plenty of work to do to get herself back in contention to win, she was full of praise for the Paris golf course and the atmosphere generated by the crowd on Wednesday.
“It’s amazing. We were actually talking that it would be so much fun to have a Solheim Cup out here. I know the Ryder Cup was amazing, but the atmosphere was insane. Yeah, I saw the crowds for the men, and to see the similar crowds for the women is just kind of for me mind-blowing.”
