The United States battled back to regain control of the Presidents Cup on Saturday, coming after a chastening Friday performance. Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele picked up wins in the Saturday Four-ball, helping the US to a 11-7 advantage at the end of a thrilling day’s play.

The International team had bounced back on Day 2 after a dominant showing in the Foursomes, winning all five matches. After the US began with a 5-0 clean sweep on Day 1, the International team’s comeback left things tied headed into Saturday.

The action from Royal Montreal Golf Club, Quebec culminates with Round 5 on Sunday, with a final round of singles competitions. The United States has won the last nine iterations of the tournament, dating back to the draw in 2003. That remains the only time in the 30-year history of the Presidents Cup that the US has not finished victorious.

It was a tough day for the United States but they fought back to retake the lead in the four-day tournament. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler began without a single birdie through the first 15 holes but dropped two on the 16th and 17th to help his team to an early victory.

“I was able to make a couple birdies when my partner needed me because he was a bit alone out there for a while today, so I was proud to step up when I needed to,” said Scheffler after his battling victory alongside Collin Morikawa.
