Update:

What a time to say goodbye: Chris Bumstead has shockingly announced he will end his fantastic career as an elite bodybuilder, right after winning his 6th Olympia Classic Physique Title in Las Vegas.

The 28-year-old from Ontario Canada silenced a jubilant crowd when he announced “this may be the last time you see me up here on this stage, but you will still see me around”, right after holding aloft the trophy he picked up for the 6th time in a row.

Why did Chris Bumstead retire?

‘CBum’ said that he has taken the decision to retire in order to focus his time on his family and business going forward. However, he was clear that he will remain with the sport and fitness industry, just not in competitions. Maybe we won’t see him smashing burgers just yet.

What is Chris Bumstead’s record?

Bumstead first appeared in the public eye back in 2017, when he first took to the stage, finishing second behind only Breon Ansley.

A year later he was not able to improve on silver, finishing second again before beginning his Undertaker-at-Wrestlemania streak at the top in 2019. From then on, Bumstead has been a household name and has propelled bodybuilding to heights not seen this century, with his ability to traverse into the world of pop culture coming as a huge boost to the world of the sport.

2019

On his way to the top, Bumstead won his first major achievement in 2015, when he claimed the Mr. Ontario title. His career at the top began there, and he has garnered a strong following on social media, with his interest in fitness and sport resonating with a large crowd who would otherwise not engage with bodybuilding.

We will miss the poster-boy of bodybuilding on the stage, but at 28, there’s plenty of time for him to dip his toes back into the world of sport.
