The former UFC superstar has been in the news recently and this time, it’s for a reason that’s neither bad nor good, but rather, scary.

Conor McGregor claims to have been hit by a car

According to his post on social media, Irish superstar Conor McGregor appears to have had a close shave with death in his home country. In a video posted on Instagram, the mixed martial artist can be seen walking along a road, as he explains to the camera that he had just been hit by a car while riding his bicycle. Breathing heavily, McGregor can be heard speaking with a man who appears to be the driver of the car that struck him, supported by the fact that he can be heard repeatedly apologizing to McGregor. Calmly, the former two-division UFC Champion can also be heard saying, “I could have been dead there,” before wishing the man a safe journey.

“Got a bang of a car just now from behind,” McGregor wrote in the post’s caption. “A sun trap, the driver couldn’t see me. Full speed straight thru [sic] me. Thank you, God, it wasn’t my time. Thank you, wrestling and judo also. Having an awareness on the landing saved my life.” It’s worth mentioning, that McGregor appeared to be in no way hurt. Indeed, aside from what looked like a tear in his pants, his bicycle - relatively unscathed - and a water bottle by the side of the road, you wouldn’t have imagined that an accident had occurred.

What about the allegations that Conor McGregor faces?

McGregor’s claims about an accident, come just days after reports confirmed that a case against him has been reopened in an Ibiza court. If you missed it, a young Irish woman alleged that the former prize fighter assaulted her on his yacht, during his 34th birthday last summer in the Balearic Islands. McGregor has denied all allegations brought against him. Regarding his career in fighting, the man known as ‘The Notorious’ has not stepped into the ring since he lost a trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier back in the summer of 2021. Most recently, McGregor revealed that he had been offered a coaching position with Ultimate Fighter. It remains to be seen, what effect his legal situation will have on his potential new job.
