Crawford says the rematch with Spence Jr. will likely happen in December

The undisputed welterweight champion will face ‘The Truth’ again late this year after Spence Jr. activated the rematch clause.

Update:
The undisputed welterweight champion will face ‘The Truth’ again late this year after Spence Jr. activated the rematch clause.

It’s hard to imagine how things have dramatically changed in boxing in just some months. While in the first quarter of the year nobody expected the very much anticipated super fight between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. to happen, it was shockingly announced “out of nowhere”.

Some weeks later, both men were inside the ring after years of negotiations and speculations and Crawford dismantled his opponent in what was considered a truly 50-50 fight before it took place.

Now, a second fight between the two talented fighters is expected to happen in December, as Spence has activated the rematch clause that was present in both boxers’ contracts, while many fans have lost interest in such a second bout and would rather prefer seeing the Omaha-bred star take on another fighter, like Jermell Charlo or even Canelo Álvarez.

Crawford, back in training focused on Spence Jr.

In his latest interview, Crawford admitted he is back to the gym to get in the fighting mood again, as he will start preparing for a second fight with Spence Jr., who was undefeated until they both met in July.

“He exercised his rematch [clause] and that’s the fight that’s supposed to happen next. We shall see how negotiations go. We supposed to fight in December, and yeah, I’m back in training”, Crawford said.

Bud admitted that he expects the rematch to take place at 147 lbs, although some rumors were saying that Spence wanted it to be at 154 lbs.

“Well, the contract states that either one or the other has to notify in writing that he can no longer make the weight. If not, then the fight will be at 147. The contract states that it has to go at ‘47 since neither I nor Errol notified each other stating that we can’t make the weight”, he added.

After clearly losing to Crawford, Spence was suggested not to fight him straight away and take a break instead to mentally recover from his first defeat and come back stronger. However, The Long Island native likes the challenge of getting into the ring again with Crawford and promised that his performance will be way better in their rematch.
