David Benavidez challenges Saúl Canelo Álvarez

Saúl Canelo Álvarez put Benavidez down when asked about him by reporters, but Benavidez has now sent him a public challenge.

Update:
David Benavidez responde a Canelo Álvarez: "Si soy un rival fácil, que venga y me venza"

Saúl Canelo Álvarez has been the face of boxing for almost a decade now and there’s a long, long list of fighters who have tried to dethrone the pound-for-pound ‘king.’ The Mexican superstar will be included in the Hall of Fame when he decides to hang up his gloves, but he still has some fights left in him to prove he is the best boxer of all-time.

After defeating Gennady Golovkin last month in the trilogy fight, reporters asked Canelo if he should fight 25-year-old rising star David Benavidez next, but the Guadalajara native said he wasn’t the right opponent. “What did he accomplish? Nothing,” said Canelo. “One single champion, Anthony Dirrell.

Benavidez’ response to Canelo

“Everything he [Canelo] was saying is bullshit,” said Benavidez to BoxingScene.com. “There’s rankings in the WBC for a reason. I’ve won two back-to-back title eliminators for a reason and won the interim belt. Man, that’s the fight everybody is talking about. Who the fuck cares if I fought one world champion.

If I’m so easy like he says and he’s not scared to beat me, come beat me. What I have to do is keep winning and the fight is eventually going to happen. I’m going to be extremely ready for when that happens,” added Benavidez

David Benavidez has now defeated two former champions because earlier this year he fought David Lemieux. The 25-year-old is quickly climbing the ladder to become a contender and challenge Canelo Álvarez. He’s currently getting ready to fight José Uzcategui in the first quarter 2023.
