Former UFC fighter arrested with nearly two million dollars worth of cocaine and weapons
Ex-welterweight Alex Garcia was among those taken into custody after a police raid uncovered cocaine, heroin, cash and firearms in Montreal.

A former UFC welterweight is at the center of the latest shock to the MMA world after Canadian authorities announced a major drug and weapons seizure in Montreal. Alex Garcia, a 38-year-old ex-UFC fighter, was arrested during a large-scale raid that uncovered cocaine valued at about $1.7 million, along with heroin, cash and firearms, according to police reports. CTV News Canada identified Garcia as one of three people taken into custody.
Massive drug and weapons haul
Police said officers seized roughly 102 grams of cocaine, about 11 pounds of heroin, approximately 5.3 gallons of gamma-hydroxybutyrate, commonly known as GHB, $306,000 in cash, three firearms and two vehicles.

The arrest followed an investigation led by an anti-gang unit that began in July 2025.
“This criminal investigation revealed that the Toronto area was being used as a supply source, with drugs then resold at higher prices in Greater Montreal,” Canadian police said in a statement.
Multiple arrests, more suspects sought
Two other suspects were also arrested, Michele Laddaga, 49, and Victor Julio Sanchez Medrano, 45. Laddaga faces charges related to drug trafficking and possession. Medrano and Garcia, who fought under the nickname “The Dominican Nightmare,” are also accused of drug offenses and possessing proceeds from illegal activity.
Authorities are asking for the public’s help to locate two additional suspects, Rattana Sem, 40, and Veronique Plouffe, 37, who remain at large. Police are offering rewards for information leading to their arrest.
Garcia’s UFC career and retirement
Garcia fought 10 times in the UFC, finishing his run with a 15-5 record. During his stint with the promotion, he faced notable opponents including former middleweight champion Sean Strickland, Neil Magny and Tim Means.
His last UFC appearance came in March 2020, when he lost by second-round TKO. That defeat marked his fourth straight loss and effectively ended his UFC career. Garcia later competed outside the promotion against Ryan LaFlare and Court McGee, followed by two more losses in the ACA, before stepping away from professional competition.
