How many hole-in-ones have been made on No. 16 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open?

It’s the most spectacular shot in golf no matter where the pros are playing, but it’s something special when it happens in front of 20,000 crazy fans in Arizona

The stadium-layout at the Waste Management Phoenix Open is one of the greatest arenas in pro golf. We’re not talking about the most beautiful or the most difficult, we’re talking about a place where 20,000 fans are surrounding the hole from tee to green on both sides with drinks in hand and ready to roar. The tournament has been growing year after year and in 2024, despite the terrible weather, fans continue to rush to get a seat on the 16th hole to be part of the action.

How many hole-in-ones have been made on No. 16 at the Waste Management Open?

The tournament started in 1987 and in 36 years there have been 11 aces made on hole number 16. Let’s take a look at who got the crowd going in Scottsdale:

Golfers who have made a hole-in-one at No. 16 at the Waste Management Open

2022: Carlos Ortiz

2022: Sam Ryder

2015: Francisco Molinari

2011: Jarrod Lyle

2002: Mike Sposa

1997: Steve Stricker

1997: Tiger Woods

1991: Jay Delsing

1990: Brad Bryant

1990: David Edwards

1988: Hal Sutton

We’re still waiting for a hole-in-one at the 2024 event, but we have two full days left as the rain and cold has caused delays and problems for the organizers who are trying to get the event finished before the Super Bowl on Sunday. The event is so popular and the attendance is so amazing that it makes most of us golf fans wonder why more courses and events don’t set up something similar. The Coliseum, the par-3 no. 16, is a party from the moment the tournament starts until it finishes. It’s a great atmosphere that most people and golfers enjoy although some more traditional fans might disagree.
