This month alone, two of the world’s greatest athletes announced their retirements from professional tennis: Serena Williams and Roger Federer.

Williams bid her farewell following her last match at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York earlier this month, while the Swiss ace is ready to hang up his racket this Friday at the O2 Arena in London.

Federer has been playing tennis professionally since 1998 and has won 20 Grand Slams and more than 100 titles. In his 24 years playing, the Swiss legend has collected $131 million in prize money, third in ATP Tour history behind Djokovic’s $159 million and Nadal’s $132 million.

But it is not only in prize money that Federer has made his fortune. The 41-year-old  has made around $1 billion (before taxes and agents’ fees) across his career just from his endorsements and other business endeavors, according to Forbes. His most prominent signed contract was in 2018 with Uniqlo. Federer secured a total of €300 million over a 10-year period. He currently has a net worth of around €550 million, making him the second richest tennis player to ever exist after Ion Tiriac, who has made most of his money in business endeavors after his retirement.
