Not Djokovic or Sinner: Just one player tops Carlos Alcaraz after 100 Grand Slam matches

Federer, Nadal and Sampras are also no match for Alcaraz after his win over Corentin Moulet in Melbourne.

Update:

Carlos Alcaraz is through to the fourth round of the 2026 Australian Open after a straight-sets win over Frenchman Corentin Moulet in the 100th Grand Slam match of his career.

The Spaniard made light work of the 32nd seed and even treated spectators to a series of trick shots against an opponent also known for his on-court flair. Alcaraz broke serve eight times, surviving two breaks of his own along the way, to seal a convincing 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 victory.

Who will Carlos Alcaraz play in the fourth round?

Alcaraz will now take on Tommy Paul, the 19th seed, in the fourth round on Sunday, January 25.

Like the world No. 1, the American has not dropped a set in the tournament so far and needed only two sets in the third round. His opponent, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, was forced to retire after the second.

Alcaraz’s (almost) historic Grand Slam record

The win over Moulet was Alcaraz’s 87th in his first 100 Grand Slam matches, a number that puts him on the brink of history.

Alcaraz, who is chasing his seventh Grand Slam title but his first at the Australian Open, is very nearly setting a record. Nearly, but not quite.

His 87-13 mark places him ahead of Jannik Sinner, who went 81-19 in his first 100 Grand Slam matches and is widely expected to be Alcaraz’s main rival for the next decade. At 22, Alcaraz also edges the so-called Big Three of modern tennis. Rafael Nadal finished 86-14 at the same stage, while Roger Federer (80-20) and Novak Djokovic (79-21) trail further back.

The only man still ahead of Alcaraz is Björn Borg, who went 88-12 in his first 100 Grand Slam matches. The Swedish icon won 11 majors between 1974 and 1981 before announcing his shock retirement at just 26.

McEnroe the leading American, Fritz well behind

Legendary Americans John McEnroe (86-14), Jimmy Connors (85-15) and Pete Sampras (83-17) also rank highly on the list. Taylor Fritz, the best of the current American crop, stood at 64-36 through his first 100 Grand Slam matches.
