One-way street for Jon Jones
The heavyweight champion will have to face Tom Aspinall if he wants to remain active with only a unification fight being considered.

Jon Jones only has one path open in the and that is to face Tom Aspinall. Considered by many as the best fighter in the history of MMA after defeating Miocic last November, Jones appears set to defend his belt once again despite rumours of retirement.

In Dana White’s own words, Jones will definitely have to face Tom Aspinall in his next fight. The British boxer is the interim champion and has even defended his belt. Despite his sporting achievements, Jones is reluctant to give him the opportunity because, according to the champion, “a victory over Aspinall would contribute nothing” to his legacy.
However, during a live stream on social media this past week, White confirmed that negotiations for a unification fight for the heavyweight belts are in advanced stages and they hope to announce it soon. Apparently, the date will be at the end of 2025 and will likely be in a major arena like Las Vegas or New York.
Aspinall, tired of waiting
At 32 years old, Tom Aspinall is in his prime in the sport and yet he is wasting time because of the elusive attitude of Jon Jones and a UFC incapable of taking the belt away from the best fighter in its history. The Manchester native has been waiting almost 2 years for Jones to raise his hand so they can finally face each other.

In that time, Aspinall has only had two fights and the British fighter has barely accumulated 3 and a half minutes of fighting out of the last 75 potential. That means he could have been much more active in terms of the number of fights, something that doesn’t happen because Aspinall must and has to wait for a title opportunity before risking a defeat that would knock him off the wagon.
