The alleged link that Chávez Jr. has with the Sinaloa Cartel: “Julio uses them like a punching bag”
The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) announced that the professional boxer was the muscle for the criminal organization.

Julio César Chávez Jr. has been arrested in the United States by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), accused of being an undocumented immigrant and of having ties to the Sinaloa Cartel. He also faces charges of arms trafficking. As a result, the Mexican boxer will be deported to Mexico, where he has had an outstanding arrest warrant since 2023.
According to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the son of the greatest legend in Mexican boxing is accused of working as the muscle for the cartel. He is also alleged to have maintained contact with Néstor Pérez Salas, head of security for the ‘Chapitos,’ as reported by Diario Reforma.
The FGR report claims that Chávez Jr.’s role within the cartel was to beat up members who made mistakes that could compromise the group. He reportedly used them as punching bags. Wiretap evidence from 2021 to 2022 suggests that he would hang young recruits from the ceiling and physically assault them.
“(HNI2) says that’s why he calls Julio—to humiliate them—that he hangs them up and Julio uses them like a punching bag," reads a transcript of one intercepted call.
“He says that when Chávez fought Canelo and managed to last all 12 rounds, even though he’s not very bright, he’s strong. Canelo hit him hard, but he took it. So imagine the kind of shame he makes those guys feel. ‘Nini’ tells them, ‘If you can take this guy’s punches, you’ll survive. If not, you’ll die.’”

Chávez Jr. reportedly shares the same arrest warrant as Ovidio Guzmán, and both face arms trafficking charges. While “El Chapo” is currently imprisoned in the U.S., Chávez Jr. will now be deported to Mexico for entering the U.S. illegally.
