Update:

Team Europe is on the brink of becoming the first team to win an away Ryder Cup since 2004 after another dominant display on Day 2 gave them a record 11.5-4.5 lead over Team USA heading into Sunday’s singles session.

Already ahead 5.5-2.5 after Friday’s opening day, Europe won both Saturday sessions 3-1 in an increasingly hostile environment. Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry were among the players unhappy with comments made by fans during the heated matches.

Path to victory on Sunday

Europe needs only 2.5 points from the 12 available on Sunday to retain the trophy they won in Rome two years ago. Three points will secure an outright win.

Team USA faces a near-impossible task, needing 10 points to complete a historic comeback.

Long odds on Long Island for Team USA

With such a large deficit, the odds are stacked against Keegan Bradley’s team. According to Oddschecker, Team USA sits at +5000 to win the trophy, meaning a $10 bet would return $510. That payout is remarkable in an event with just two teams and nearly half the available points still in play.

A $10 wager on Europe, by contrast, would return only $10.20, a profit of just 20 cents.

Americans still favored in singles

Despite Europe’s dominance, DraftKings Sportsbook lists seven Americans as favorites or co-favorites in their singles matchups, including world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who takes on No. 2 Rory McIlroy.

Singles odds:

  • Cameron Young (-145) vs. Justin Rose (+105)
  • Bryson DeChambeau (-170) vs. Matt Fitzpatrick (+125)
  • Scottie Scheffler (-145) vs. Rory McIlroy (+110)
  • J.J. Spaun (-145) vs. Sepp Straka (+105)
  • Russell Henley (-145) vs. Shane Lowry (+105)
  • Ben Griffin (-145) vs. Rasmus Hojgaard (+105)
  • Sam Burns (-115) vs. Robert MacIntyre (-115)

Despite their struggles, Team USA is -115 to win Sunday’s singles session, slightly ahead of Europe at +175.

Fleetwood leads top scorer race

Tommy Fleetwood (-250), who faces Justin Thomas on Sunday, is the strong favorite to finish as the tournament’s top points scorer after winning all four of his matches over the first two days.

Only McIlroy (+275), Jon Rahm (+1200) and Tyrrell Hatton (+1200), each with three points, can still catch the Englishman.

On the American side, Cameron Young (+115) and Xander Schauffele (+150), both with two points, are battling to finish as the USA’s leading scorer. Patrick Cantlay (+550), with 1.5 points, is the only other player who can overtake them.
