The fight between Canelo Álvarez of Mexico and Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan will take place in 10 days, and on the occasion of the celebration of Mexico’s Independence, the World Boxing Council wants to make the fight a special one.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaimán unveiled the Guerrero Jaguar Zapoteca commemorative belt, which will be awarded to the winner of the fight between Canelo and GGG.

“The belt is beautiful and absolutely exceptional,” said Sulaimán of the creation, made by Oaxacan artisan Jacobo Ángeles. “It means everything to whoever wins it. It has the heart and soul of Oaxacan history.”

According to the portal Izquierdazo.com, since 2017 the WBC has handed out commemorative belts in the fights held on the weekends of May 5 and September 15.
