Who is Miles Russell? 15-year-old set to play in PGA Tour
The youngster is set to make history when he tees off at the upcoming leg of the PGA Tour.
15-year-old Miles Russell, who became the youngest player to ever make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour earlier this year, will make his PGA Tour debut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
The tournament, which will get underway on June 27 at Detroit Golf Club in Michigan, offered Russell (15 years, five months and 17 days old) one of its four sponsor’s exemptions.
He is the reigning American Junior Golf Association’s Player of the Year, becoming the youngest ever winner (Tiger Woods is the only other player to win the award before turning 16)
Russell won the Junior PGA Championship last year by seven shots while also triumphing in the Junior PLAYERS Championship. Reports say he first attended The Players Championship at the age of two and has attended every tournament there since.
Who is Miles Russell?
The PGA website labels Russell as “one of golf’s top up-and-coming prospects”. He is from Jacksonville, Florida, and was introduced to golf by his father and grandfather at the age of two, when ‘Party Rock Anthem’ (LMFAO) and ‘We Found Love’ by Rihanna were dominating the radio waves.
Who is the youngest ever golfer?
The record belongs to Michelle Wie West, who was granted a sponsor exemption to play in the 2004 Sony Open at the age of 14 years, 3 months and 4 days.
“I am thankful to Rocket Mortgage for giving me the opportunity to make my PGA Tour debut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Ever since I first started playing golf, my dream has been to compete on the PGA Tour and test my game against the best players, and I’m looking forward to making the most of the experience later this month”, Russell said in a statement.
Rocket Mortgage Classic executive director Jason Langwell said in a statement that “the Rocket Mortgage Classic is known as a tournament where ‘future stars start,’ and we’re thrilled to have Miles make his PGA Tour debut here and add to that legacy. He has proved with his many accomplishments at such a young age that he belongs, and we are excited to see Miles compete alongside the world’s best golfers here at Detroit Golf Club.”
