American golfer, Bryson DeChambeau, hoped he would be able to play at the 2022 PGA Championship happening this weekend. But he just wasn’t ready.

The PGA Championship announced Wednesday that the 28-year-old had withdrawn from the tournament, due to a hand injury.

Why did DeChambeau withdraw from the 2022 PGA Championship?

Back in February, DeChambeau injured his hand at the Saudi International and was hurt while playing pingpong. And while DeChambeau knew people were talking about how it happened, he gave his own comments regarding the injury.

“People are going to say it’s off of speed training and all that and, sure, some of the things have been a part of that, just abuse and working really, really hard,” DeChambeau said in March. “But at the same time, I wouldn’t have traded it for anything. I’ve learned so much about my body as time has gone on and learned how to manage things and how important rest is.”

Denny McCarthy will be taking DeChambeau’s place in the field at the PGA championship.

DeChambeau struggled at the Masters

Even though DeChambeau waited till the Masters before fully testing the hand, he struggled at the event shooting an opening-round 76 and a second-round 80, missing the cut. A week later, on April 14, he had surgery.

DeChambeau was hopeful he could return to the PGA Tour “within two months” after the procedure. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t his timing.
