Ryder Cup

Why isn’t Brooks Koepka playing in the 2025 Ryder Cup? When does his LIV contract end?

As the Ryder Cup gets going, a surprising face is missing. Brooks Koepka wasn’t even in the conversation after a rough 2025 season.

Update:

Brooks Koepka, once the most dominant force in golf, has seen his career take a sharp downturn since joining LIV Golf. Just a few years ago, he was winning majors with ease, famously capturing his fourth in less than two years and even calling majors “the easiest to win.” Now, at 35, he’s struggling to stay competitive, so don’t expect to see him at the Ryder Cup with Team USA this weekend.

Brooks Koepka’s Ryder Cup absence says it all about his decline

Koepka has been suffering a decline as of late. In the 2025 season, he’s missed the cut at three majors - more than he has in his previous 11 years combined. His best finish was a T12 at the U.S. Open. Since his fifth major win at the 2023 PGA Championship, he’s managed only two top-20 finishes in majors.

Once an automatic Ryder Cup selection, Koepka wasn’t even in the conversation for Team USA in 2025. Even on LIV, where he was once a standout, he has only one top-five finish this season and no wins, looking more like a middle-of-the-pack player.

Koepka himself admitted to being unhappy and frustrated with his game earlier this year, showing signs that his confidence may be shaken.

What was once unthinkable - a Ryder Cup without Koepka - is now reality. The man who dominated from 2017 to 2021 has faded, leaving questions about whether LIV’s structure and softer competition have dulled his edge.

Brooks Koepka’s LIV contract details

Koepka’s LIV Golf contract, reportedly worth over $100 million, runs through the end of the 2026 season. There are rumors that he may return to the PGA Tour after the contract expires. He has said that he does intend to honor the LIV deal, but admitted he doesn’t know what comes next for him. He emphasized he’s focused on improving his game and performing in majors rather than worrying about long-term plans.

I don’t know where I’m going, so I don’t know how everybody else does,” Koepka said in March. “Right now I’m just focused on how do I play better, how do I play better in the majors, how does this team win, and then we’ll figure out next year and how to play better again. It’s the same thing. It’s just a revolving cycle.”
