Sergio “Checo” Pérez’s numbers in Formula 1 are impressive: he participated in 14 seasons, achieved 6 victories, 3 pole positions, 12 fastest laps, and 39 podium finishes—two of which were at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City in 2021 and 2022. However, as of this Wednesday, Pérez has officially parted ways with the Red Bull team, leaving his future in the sport unknown.

Checo Pérez’s Future

It appears unlikely that Pérez will secure a seat with another team for the 2025 F1 season, as most teams seem to have already finalized their driver lineups. McLaren, the reigning world champion team, will continue with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. Mercedes is placing its bets on George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli, while Ferrari will field Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. Aston Martin will go with Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso. Alpine is backing young driver Jack Doohan alongside Pierre Gasly. Haas has Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman. Sauber/Audi is opting for Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto. Williams will feature Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz. Red Bull Racing has Yuki Tsunoda and one seat available, in addition to the four-time world champion Max Verstappen.

Options in other racing series are likely to present themselves for Pérez Mendoza, but his actual plans remain to be seen. The World Endurance Championship (WEC), the World Rally Championship (WRC), and NASCAR could all be possibilities. The least likely option seems to be IndyCar. The strong sponsorship support Pérez enjoys will undoubtedly play a crucial role in ensuring he continues to compete somewhere in 2025—or, if not, perhaps 2026 could see the Mexican driver’s return to F1, as his statistics back his value in the sport.

Sergio “Checo” Pérez has also built a significant profile off the track. The products he promotes through commercials are highly popular, and in Mexico, he has generated a surge of enthusiasm for motorsports. Thus, it’s almost certain he will find a platform to continue showcasing the talent and skill that have made him a motorsports icon.
