2024 Spanish Super Cup: How many Super Cups have Osasuna won?

Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, Osasuna and Real Madrid are the four teams that have qualified for the Spanish Super Cup this month due to their respective LaLiga and Copa del Rey exploits last season.

Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid will play in the first semi-final on Wednesday 10 January and given the form of both teams in recent matches, Real Madrid, on paper, will be the favourites to win the match and go through to the final.

Osasuna vs Barcelona

The other semi-final sees Osasuna take on Barcelona. Jagoba Arrasate’s men finished runners-up in last season’s Copa del Rey final, losing to Real Madrid. In a fine 2022-23 campaign, they also finished in seventh place in the league.

This season is not going as well for the side from Pamplona, although they will fancy their chances of surprising Barcelona, who have also been struggling of late. The El Sadar outfit come into the tournament with nothing to lose but if they are to advance, they will face one of the aforementioned sides from the capital.

Barça’s decline

Xavi’s Barça are not the same team that lifted the LaLiga title in 2023 and only narrowly beat Spanish minnows Barbastro in the Copa del Rey at the weekend. Their league form has also seen a decline from last season and they currently sit in third place on 41 points, seven behind joint-leaders Real Madrid and Girona at the top. It could be the perfect time for Osasuna to meet the Catalans.

Spanish Super Cup records

The final of the Super Cup will be played on Sunday 14 January and another trophy for Barça would see them move on to 15 Spanish Super Cups as they are the competition’s most successful club with 14. Madrid will be aiming to close the gap on the Blaugrana over the coming days. They currently have 12 Super Cup trophies to their name.

Atlético have only won the Spanish Super Cup twice, while it will be Osasuna’s first taste of Spanish Super Cup action and they have therefore yet to get their hands on the trophy. But what a story that would be.
