AC Milan icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic lavishes praise on USMNT star Christian Pulisic
The former Barcelona and Manchester United striker has been hugely impressed with “Captain America” in Serie A and the Champions League.
Former AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has showered current Rossoneri and USMNT star Christian Pulisic with praise in an interview with Champions League magazine.
Pulisic “doing extraordinary things” with AC Milan
The 26-year-old attacker has become a key figure for the Italian giants after joining from Chelsea in 2023, with Ibrahimovic one of the many impressed with his performances: “I think Christian is our ‘Captain America’. He is doing extraordinary things, he seems happy. Being at Milan makes all players happy. It is not just my opinion, all players would tell you the same thing.”
“They have an optimal environment in which to focus solely on football and performing on the pitch. As for Pulisic, we have turned his form back around and now you can see that he is really happy on the pitch, and that is why he is performing at a high level. Even off the pitch he is also crucial for us,” explained the Swede, who now works as senior advisor to RedBird, the American investment management firm that owns AC Milan.
The 2024-25 season has been a hugely positive one so far for Pulisic, who has scored seven goals and provided five assists in 15 games in the Champions League and Serie A. The American has found the net in high-profile clashes against Liverpool, Inter Milan and Fiorentina, as well as setting up the opening goal for Malick Thiaw in the statement UCL victory away to Real Madrid.
Pulisic and responsibility in the USMNT
As far as the USMNT is concerned, Pulisic will captain the team in Mauricio Pochettino’s first competitive games in charge in the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal against Jamaica.
The Pennsylvania native featured under the Argentine in the first of two October friendlies against Panama but didn’t play in the defeat to Mexico, instead returning to Italy for some rest.
Over the next week, the literal ‘Captain America’ will be looking to guide the Stars and Stripes to the semifinals of the CONCACAF Nations League, a tournament the United States have won three times out of three. The tie against Jamaica begins in Kingston on Thursday, November 14, with the return leg to be played in St. Louis on Monday, November 18.
