Alexia Putellas ruled out of Spain’s upcoming matches

The RFEF doctors decided that Putellas should leave the camp. Irene Paredes and Cata Coll will be involved.

It’s back to work for the Spain national team, who have the goal of reaching the Final Four of the Nations League. Head coach Montse Tomé arrived into the current camp with question marks over Irene Paredes and Alexia Putellas, both injured with Barcelona, and the double Ballon d’Or winner has subsequently not been included in the squad. Paredes, however, is in the squad, as is Cata Coll, who has recovered from gastroenteritis.

“Alexia Putellas will leave the Spanish national team camp this afternoon following tests carried out by the team’s medical services. After examining her injury, the FC Barcelona player will return home to continue her recovery,” the statement read.

Putellas out for Italy and Sweden

Both the midfielder and the defender were not included in the last two call-ups with the Blaugrana, and after being assessed by the RFEF (Spanish FA) doctors it was determined that only Alexia will be out for the matches against Italy (1 December in Pontevedra) and Sweden (5 December in Málaga).

For the time being, this is the only setback for the coach, who had drawn up a list of 25 players. María Pérez, Eva Navarro and Fiamma Benítez are the new additions to the squad.

The players have arrived at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, where they will train until Thursday, before leaving for Galicia. They were welcomed by Markel Zubizarreta and Gonzalo Rodríguez, who were recently appointed as technical directors of the Spanish national team.

The day’s session will be very special for two reasons: it will be open to the public and there will also be a charity toy collection.
