Alexis Vega: “Joining Chivas helped me to mature”

The figure of the Sacred Flock recognized that he has grown in football in the Guadalajara team.

Alexis Vega: “Joining Chivas helped me to mature”
Roberto Echeagaray

Chivas winger Alexis Vega thinks he is experiencing one of the best moments of his career. He is the pillar of his team and is considered one of the most feared players in the entire Liga MX. And he is emerging with serious possibilities of landing a starting place for Mexico at the Qatar World Cup, if Jesús Manuel Corona fails to recover from his fractured shin bone injury in time. Vega feels that he has matured during his time with Guadalajara.

“As I’ve always said, it’s the best moment of my career. I think that joining Chivas made me mature a lot. In a team with a lot of pressure, it’s not easy at all, but I know I have talent, I know what I’m capable of doing on the pitch and my team mates make everything easy for me. I am lucky to be in a great team that we will try to end the season the best we can and fight doing what we love,” he explained.

Alexis Vega has been at the heart of Chivas’ resurgence. Just a few weeks back, the team seemed to have no hope in the 2022 Apertura, but after three consecutive victories, the team is now seventh in the table and ready to fight for a place in the final phase. Vega is relieved that positive results have finally arrived.

It’s really impressive, I think we deserved it. A perfect week with three wins from three games. We’re very happy. The team had been working for that, the results were not coming our way and now we have been more aggressive - that has helped us to start winning,” he added.

To end, he thanked the fans for their support - which the team has felt and appreciated in the most recent meetings. Against Pumas, on Saturday, the team went behind after just two minutes, but responded with a spectacular comeback and ended winning the game 3- 1.

“We have shown we can do it, the fans have connected quite well with us in the last three games. That makes us very happy because at the start of the tournament it wasn’t that way. Now the fans and the team are on the same page - it’s what we need to be a strong team and make out stadium a difficult place to visit,” he concluded.
