Having drawn another blank in Club América’s 1-0 loss to Chivas Guadalajara on Saturday, Henry Martín remains on a Liga MX scoring drought that has now lasted for just over a year.

When did Martín last score in Liga MX?

The striker’s last league goal for América dates back to February 7, 2025, against Puebla; since then, Las Águilas’ captain hasn’t had anything to celebrate. In this weekend’s Clásico, he logged 73 minutes and, according to SofaScore, registered only two shots - none of them on target - while Armando “La Hormiga” González decided the match with a 41st-minute winner for Chivas.

Martín’s slump is compounded by a long injury history that kept him off the field for more than 200 days. That extended spell of inactivity has clearly affected both the striker’s physical sharpness and the finishing touch that once made him a reliable scoring reference. Even though he has regained his spot in the starting XI, he still hasn’t found the rhythm needed to break a drought that has now reached a full calendar year.

Off the pitch, Martín has faced criticism after comments in an interview suggested he was playing for himself rather than for the fans. The captain later clarified in the mixed zone that his words had been taken out of context: “What I meant is that you have to be right with yourself in order to bring joy to others; the fans are the most important,” he explained. He reaffirmed his commitment to América and insisted that, although he wasn’t born an Águila, he now considers himself one of the club’s most passionate supporters.

What is Martín’s worst barren run in front of goal?

This year‑long scoring crisis edges closer to becoming his worst drought on record. Between his final goal for Tijuana (January 30, 2016) and his first with América (January 8, 2018), Henry Martín went nearly two full years - 709 days - without finding the net in Liga MX. The captain will have a chance to keep the current streak from growing on February 20, when América visits Puebla, the same opponent he last scored against in 2025 and, perhaps, his best opportunity to finally break the curse.
