Since the Los Angeles Galaxy tried to sign Sergi Roberto earlier this year, the relationship between the MLS side and FC Barcelona has strengthened. The Spanish international was tempted with a move to Major League Soccer due to a lack of playing time and injuries he suffered last season once Xavi Hernández took over at Camp Nou.

Sergi Roberto has a good relationship with Xavi and Barcelona extended his stay at Camp Nou until 2023 and the player declined the option to join the Galaxy. Since then both sides have been in constant communication and a proof of that is the arrival of Riqui Puig to Los Angeles on a 3-year-and-a-half contract, but the La Liga side has a buyback clause of around €10 million.

Barcelona will also receive 50% of any future transfer and Puig became the most valuable player in the Galaxy’s current roster. As the MLS side was negotiating for the Spanish midfielder, they also inquired about another player from Barcelona that will not be taken into consideration for the 2022/23 La Liga season.

Sources close to AS confirm that there were talks with another player of the current Barça roster but it is not certain about the details of the deal. In the next few hours, the Galaxy could announce the signing of a new player for the second part of the 2022 Major League Soccer season that will help them make a late push to secure a spot in the playoffs.
