Antoine Griezmann made to wait for his American dream in MLS
The World Cup winner wants to finish his career in the United States, but Atlético Madrid has informed Orlando City Griezmann isn’t going anywhere yet.

Orlando City would love to bring Antoine Griezmann to Florida immediately, but Atlético de Madrid has no intention of letting the French forward leave for MLS during the current transfer window.
Relations between the attacker and Atlético’s leadership remain excellent, as does his relationship with head coach Diego Simeone. The plan is simple: sit down calmly at the end of the season and discuss what comes next for the French star.
MLS remains the long-term dream
Griezmann has often said he wants to finish his career in Major League Soccer. Orlando City has taken the early initiative and could ultimately land him. He has spoken about that possibility many times, and the expectation is that it could happen, but only after the season ends.
Atlético is currently competing on several fronts, including a chance to reach the Copa del Rey final for the first time in years. With so much on the line, no one at the club wants to weaken the squad at such a crucial stage of the campaign.
Atlético asks for clarity, not a saga
Club officials and Griezmann have already held discussions, and Atlético has made clear it will support whatever decision the forward ultimately makes.
The only request from the club is straightforward. If Griezmann decides to move to MLS, they want to know as soon as possible so the front office can prepare. Early notice would help Atlético plan reinforcements and shape the roster for the 2026-27 season. In other words, the club wants clarity rather than a drawn-out transfer saga.
A club legend still playing a key role
Griezmann is already considered a legend at Atlético. Despite his age and increasing competition within the squad, he continues to see significant playing time and remains an important figure for the team.
Right now, Atlético is focused on reaching the Copa del Rey final, staying alive in European competition, and securing fourth place in LaLiga. That position guarantees a spot in the Champions League and helps preserve the club’s current standing among Europe’s elite. Leaving midseason is simply not part of the plan for anyone involved.
