Atlanta take note as Tigres close the door on ‘Chucky’ Lozano

Hirving Lozano won’t be heading back to Liga MX anytime soon — and certainly not to Tigres. What began as a rumor has now been shut down by the club from Nuevo León. Sources told AS that Tigres already feel fully stocked in the attack, making the Pachuca academy product an unrealistic signing in the near future.

Discreet transfer window

Tigres opened the Clausura 2026 without any new additions, but their front line is already loaded with Diego Lainez, Juan Brunetta, Ángel Correa, Uriel Antuna, and Nicolás Ibáñez — not to mention veteran star André‑Pierre Gignac, who still has plenty to offer. With that kind of firepower, Lozano would have little room to fit into the current Liga MX runners‑up.

With Tigres out of the picture, the strongest option on the table is Atlanta United, coached by Argentine manager Gerardo “Tata” Martino. The biggest reason the move makes sense: Atlanta is the only club positioned to meet Lozano’s salary expectations, estimated at around $9 million per year.

Chivas and Pachuca — two other clubs linked to Lozano — simply can’t match those financial demands. That makes a reunion between Lozano and Martino look increasingly likely, and the deal could come together in the next few weeks.

Chucky’s contract situation

Lozano remains under contract through 2028, and until a final decision is made, he will continue training with San Diego, according to reporting from Emor Villa, AS USA Latino’s correspondent in San Diego. With just five months left before the World Cup, the Mexican international’s future is still up in the air.
