Barça’s millions: Why that Champions League night mattered twice for FC Barcelona
Barcelona’s place in the Champions League quarterfinals has eased pressure on the club’s budget – and the biggest windfall may still be ahead.

Barcelona enjoyed a double reward after knocking out Newcastle and reaching the Champions League quarterfinals. And us viewers were served up a treat. There was a sporting prize, but also a financial one. The Catalan club has now met the target built into its 2025-26 budget, which each season assumes a run to this stage of Europe’s top competition. Had it gone out earlier, the shortfall would have had to be offset by other income.
How much does Barcelona earn for Champions League wins?
Reaching the Champions League quarterfinals brings in about $13.6 million. Barcelona had already earned about $12 million for advancing directly to the round of 16 and avoiding the playoff round, plus an additional $2.2 million for finishing in the top 16 and another $9.6 million for ending up in fifth place. That figure comes from the standings bonus, which awards about $300,000 to the team that finishes last and roughly $10.8 million to the team that finishes first in the league phase – a spot taken this season by Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Barcelona has already earned about $36 million from its on-field results in this season’s Champions League. To reach the full figure, that amount must be added to the fixed $20.3 million paid to every club for taking part in the league phase and the $38.6 million tied to the value pillar, which combines the market pool – sponsorship and TV rights – with the club’s historical coefficient over the last 10 years. Adding everything together, Barcelona has already surpassed $109 million from its Champions League campaign this season.
The club can still add several more million to its Champions League haul if it keeps advancing. It would collect about $16.4 million for reaching the semifinals, $20.2 million for making the final, $7.1 million for winning it and another $4.4 million for qualifying for the next UEFA Super Cup.
