Barcelona publicly mock Real Madrid after loss to Rayo

The Barça social media team published a somewhat controversial tweet after the defeat of Carlo Ancelotti’s team in Vallecas, which left the Catalans in top spot.

With Real Madrid’s surprise 3-2 defeat against Rayo Vallecano on Monday night, Barcelona hold their place as leader of LaLiga Santander with 34 points, two more than Los Blancos. Carlo Ancelotti’s team disappointed in Vallecas, and their eternal rivals didn’t miss a chance to react.

With Martínez Munuera’s final whistle that consumed Real Madrid’s defeat, Barcelona were quickly ‘smiling’. With a simple tweet, showing a smiley emoticon accompanied by a photograph of Robert Lewandowski, the social media team made their point. And another couple were quick to follow...

In this way, and in the absence of the week-to-week matchday as the last league match before the World Cup, Xavi Hernández’s team will depend on itself to maintain the leadership before the break for the World Cup event.

Barcelona will seek to extend their first place when they visit El Sadar on Tuesday to face an Osasuna, a relative ‘minnow’ who, like Rayo, are mixing with the big boys this season, and have dreams of a European place.
