Update:

Former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has been sentenced to one year in prison by a Madrid court for committing tax fraud during the 2014 fiscal year. However, he won’t serve any jail time. The Italian coach was also cleared of a similar charge stemming from 2015.

What fine does Ancelotti have to pay?

According to legal sources cited by Spanish news agency EFE, the 30th section of Madrid’s Provincial Court found Ancelotti guilty of defrauding Spanish tax authorities in 2014 and ordered him to pay a fine of €386,361.93 (roughly $452,000). In addition, he’s barred from receiving public subsidies or enjoying tax or Social Security benefits in Spain for the next three years.

While the court acquitted him of a separate charge of income tax fraud in 2015, it upheld the state’s right to recover civil damages for the 2014 offense—again, totaling €386,361.93 (approximately $452,000).

Spanish prosecutors had accused the current Brazil national team boss of failing to pay a combined €1.06 million (around $1.24 million) in taxes during his first stint managing Los Blancos—€386,000 ($452,000) in 2014 and another €675,000 (almost $791,000) in 2015.

During his trial, held in early April in Madrid, Ancelotti testified that he never intended to defraud the Spanish Treasury. He said he followed advice from the club and his financial advisors and requested to be acquitted. As a fallback, his defense asked the court to consider mitigating circumstances—including the fact that he paid the full amount owed in December 2021 and the excessive delay in the legal proceedings.
