Both the Monterrey and Guadalajara sides released special edition shirts as a show of support for the Mexican national team who head to the Qatar World Cup in November.

After Monterrey recently unveiled their special edition green shirt, the other Puma branded Liga MX side Chivas presented their version of the green national team coloured shirt that celebrates the forthcoming World Cup and a show of support for Gerado Martino’s side. The new shirt is completely green, with a red collar and white sleeve trimmings which represent the colors of the Mexican flag.

Speaking at the launch of the shirt, Chivas central defender Antonio Briseño stated: “I think it’s a source of pride to wear a green shirt that represents Mexico. All Chivas fans will unite and get behind the national team in Qatar. When you go abroad many fans know about Chivas so this shirt is a major source of pride. It’s also a very cool shirt and it will be a pleasure to wear it”.

The ‘Sacred Flock’ are not the first Liga MX club to get behind the green shirt initiative, Monterrey FC recently launching their particular version of the green shirt (again manufactured by sportswear giant Puma). The shirt made its Liga MX debut recently as ‘Los Rayados’ overcame Atlas 2-0 to maintain their solid form as the Monterrey side are currently second in the overall Apertura 2022 table and have secured a place in the liguilla quarter-final.

Mexico are pitted in Group B of the 2022 World Cup and face Poland, Argentina and Saudi Arabia with many feeling that the opener against Lewandowski and co. could determine who joins the highly fancied Argentina in advancing from the group.
