Christian Pulisic suffers new injury with AC Milan: how long will he be out and which games will he miss?

Christian Pulisic could be set for yet another spell on the sidelines after being forced off the field in AC Milan’s 2-1 victory away to Cesc Fàbregas’ Como in Serie A on Tuesday (January 14).

What injury does Christian Pulisic have?

The USMNT star had to be substituted at halftime after picking up what appeared to be a thigh muscle injury late in the first half.

Pulisic was seen clutching the top part of his leg after going down following an innocuous battle for possession with Como defender Marc-Oliver Kempf. The former Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea attacker traipsed off down the tunnel soon after, failing to reappear after the interval.

Pulisic given good news after injury tests

Pulisic underwent tests on Wednesday and received good news: he is simply suffering from muscular fatigue. As such, he will be able to resume training over the next few days and a decision will be taken by the manager ahead of the game against Juventus.

The 26-year-old’s potential absence comes at a tricky time for Milan, who travel to Juventus in their next Serie A fixture on Sunday (January 18). Also on the horizon are Champions League games against Girona (home, January 22) and Dinamo Zagreb (away, January 29), which will decide whether the Italian giants qualify directly for the round of 16, clinch a playoff place or, the most unlikely scenario, be eliminated from the competition.

The USMNT will play friendly game against Venezuela and Costa Rica on January 18 and 22 respectively, although the forward had been left off the roster, which only contains MLS players.

The forward previously missed four games (three in Serie A, one in the Champions League) in December because of a calf problem.

USMNT star’s excellent Serie A and Champions League form

The American has been a shining light for the Rossoneri in what has been a below-par league campaign so far. Despite Pulisic’s five goals and six assists in 16 appearances, Milan find themselves in seventh place in the Serie A standings, 16 points behind leaders Napoli.

They have, however, fared rather better in cup competitions. In the Champions League, in which Pulisic has netted three times and assisted once in five games, they are on the verge of securing a playoff spot at the very least, although they will hope to clinch a place in the last 16 directly, as mentioned.

‘Captain America’ also scored in games against Juventus and Inter as Milan won the 2024 Supercoppa Italiana, played in Saudi Arabia at the start of January. That was Pulisic’s first trophy since being part of the Chelsea squad that lifted the Champions League in 2020/21.

Milan will face Roma in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals on February 5 and will be hoping Pulisic is over his latest fitness issues by then.
