As Club América deals with an injury crisis that has put the team’s attack under serious pressure, a Mexican international is looking to leave Saudi soccer and rejoin Las Águilas - especially with the World Cup on the horizon this year. He wants to make sure he’s on Mexico boss Javier Aguirre’s radar.

Quiñones back to América?

According to reporting by Fox’s Juan Carlos Ibarrarán, Julián Quiñones is exploring an exit from Al‑Qadisiyah to return to Liga MX.

The key detail working in his favor: as a naturalized Mexican citizen, the Colombian-born forward wouldn’t fill one of the América roster’s limited foreign-player spots - an attractive point for the club’s front office.

Quiñones previously played for América between July 2023 and June 2024, scoring 23 goals in 52 games as part of a side that won the Apertura 2023 and Clausura 2024 titles.

América in dire straits in Liga MX

The team’s current situation is complicated. Two matchdays into the Clausura 2026, América has picked up just one point, leaving them near the bottom of the Liga MX table. Because of that - and with multiple attacking players sidelined - head coach André Jardine is expected to push for one more reinforcement.

There’s still time to finalize another signing, as the winter transfer window doesn’t close until February 9. That gives the coaching staff room to look for a player who can fill a Mexican roster spot - or, if necessary, to move on from a foreign player to open space for a new arrival.

For now, on Matchday 3 of the Clausura 2026, Las Águilas head on the road to Estadio Hidalgo to take on Pachuca on Sunday - a match they’re under pressure to win if they want to finally start collecting three points at a time.
