Club América: Seven and counting
While André Jardine has delivered domestic silverware as América head coach, Las Águilas have failed to fire in international competitions.

For the first time in history, an MLS club has defeated Club América at the Coloso de Santa Úrsula. Nashville SC punched its ticket to the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals thanks to a lone goal from Hany Mukhtar, sealing another bitter failure for Las Águilas.
It marked not only the first loss ever for América against an MLS opponent at what is now known as Estadio Banorte, but also just the second time the club has failed to score across a two‑legged Champions Cup tie. It is a stark reflection of the difficult moment the team is undergoing under the most decorated head coach in its history, André Jardine.
Failures continue to mount
Beyond domestic success - a Liga MX three‑peat, the Campeón de Campeones, and the Supercopa MX - international competition remains the glaring shortcoming of the Brazilian’s tenure. While América did capture the Campeones Cup against the Columbus Crew, that match is not sanctioned by FIFA and therefore holds no official recognition.
Focusing specifically on the CONCACAF Champions Cup, América fell in the semifinals of the 2024 edition to eventual champions Pachuca. In 2025, Cruz Azul eliminated them at the quarterfinal stage. In both instances, Los Azulcremas closed the series away from home - unlike this 2026 run, when they had the advantage of finishing at home.
The Leagues Cup has likewise failed to provide much in the way of validation, a trend that applies broadly to Mexican soccer. Since the tournament adopted its expanded format, no Liga MX club has won the competition, and like the Campeones Cup, it lacks official federation recognition. Its importance is often downplayed due to its commercially driven focus rather than sporting merit, but even so, América have now gone three editions without making meaningful progress.

The most painful moment of all came during the Club World Cup play‑in, when a pathway opened to the most coveted global objective - only requiring a win over Los Angeles FC. América led the match until conceding a last‑minute equalizer, ultimately collapsing in extra time. It remains the lowest point of this sharply contrasting era under Jardine.
