Cristiano Ronaldo back in Al Nassr team: What did CR7 say about absence?
The Portuguese star had sat out of the last three games, reportedly in protest against the team’s transfer policy.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s short-lived protest against his team’s transfer dealings is over, returning to the Al Nassr squad ahead of Saturday’s game against Al Fateh. The Portuguese star has not featured in the last three games due to the stand-off.
Despite those concerns, on Friday it was confirmed that CR7 is back in the Al Nassr squad for the upcoming game. He was featured in the team’s social media posts ahead of the trip to Riyadh, suggesting that he had been reintroduced back into the squad. That same day, Ronaldo posted a series of photos of himself back in Al Nassr training with the caption: “Locked in.”
Ronaldo was reportedly frustrated with Al Nassr’s transfer dealings, pointing the blame at the club’s PIF ownership group in Saudi Arabia. Al Nassr are yet to win a major title since Ronaldo arrived in 2021 and current league leaders Al Hilal recently added Karim Benzema.
The stand-off between Ronaldo and Al Nassr appears to have come to an end but there remains a degree of tension between the two parties. In a statement released last week, the Saudi club said: “Cristiano has been fully engaged with Al Nassr since his arrival and has played an important role in the club’s growth and ambition. Like any elite competitor, he wants to win. But no individual - however significant - determines decisions beyond their own club.”
