Cruz Azul are closing in on a record - and it’s not good news
After being held to yet another draw on Tuesday, Cruz Azul are a step closer to emulating their worst ever winless streak.

Cruz Azul’s stalemate with Querétaro moved the Liga MX team one step closer to a piece of unwanted history, as victory once again eluded Nicolás Larcamón’s men.
On matchday 16 of the Clausura 2026 tournament on Tuesday, Cruz Azul were held to a 1-1 draw at the Estadio La Corregidora, extending their winless streak to nine games.
What is Cruz Azul’s longest ever winless run?
La Máquina is now just three matches away from equaling the worst winless stretch in club history, in 2009, when it went 12 consecutive matches without a victory across Liga MX and the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Between 2002 and 2003, Cruz Azul also endured a 10-game winless sequence spanning Liga MX and Pre-Libertadores play.
When was the last time Cruz Azul won a game?
Cruz Azul had been riding an impressive 11-match unbeaten run through matchday 10 of the Clausura 2026, when they defeated Atlético San Luis 3-0 on March 7.
Since that win, however, Cruz Azul has suffered two defeats and been held to no fewer than seven draws:
- April 21: Querétaro 1-1 Cruz Azul, Liga MX
- April 18: Cruz Azul 1-1 Tijuana, Liga MX
- April 14: Cruz Azul 1-1 Los Angeles FC, Champions Cup
- April 11: Club América 1-1 Cruz Azul, Liga MX
- April 7: Los Angeles FC 3-0 Cruz Azul, Champions Cup
- April 4: Cruz Azul 1-2 Pachuca, Liga MX
- March 20: Mazatlán 1-1 Cruz Azul, Liga MX
- March 17: Cruz Azul 1-1 Monterrey, Liga MX
- March 14: Pumas 2-2 Cruz Azul, Liga MX
How many matches do Cruz Azul have left?
Cruz Azul have one regular-season match remaining in the Clausura 2026: a showdown against Necaxa that will mark La Máquina’s return to the Estadio de la Ciudad de México.
The nine-time Mexican champions are also guaranteed at least two Liga MX playoff games, having already clinched their spot in the Clausura quarterfinals.
