Cruz Azul receive bad news ahead of crunch Clausura clash with América
As they prepare for the second leg of their Clausura 2025 semi-final against Club América, Cruz Azul have suffered a setback.
Cruz Azul have been dealt an injury blow ahead of their Clausura 2025 semi-final decider against Club América.
Left winger Carlos Rodolfo Rotondi experienced knee discomfort and was unable to train with the team during their final practice session on Saturday, reports ESPN’s César Caballero.
It is highly likely that Rotondi will not be able to participate in Sunday’s second leg. If the 28-year-old’s absence is confirmed, Cruz Azul will be without one of their stand-out performers in the current tournament.
Cruz Azul absences piling up
Should Rotondi sit out this weekend’s clash, he will join Gabriel ‘Toro’ Fernández, who is injured, and Ignacio Rivero, who is suspended, in being unavailable to head coach Vicente Sánchez.
Who could take Rotondi’s place?
The outlook is difficult for Sánchez, as Rivero would normally be a prime candidate to fill in for Rotondi on the flank.
With the 33-year-old also out of action, a prominent option under consideration is Omar Campos, a 22-year-old left-back who was one of the team’s reinforcements for 2025.
It should be noted that the former Santos Laguna and Los Angeles FC player has featured very little since joining Cruz Azul, having struggled with injury.
