David Beckham and Inter Miami move one step closer to bringing Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets to MLS

Inter Miami’s transfer dealings on Wednesday appear to have further opened the door to signing the PSG star and his former Barcelona teammate.

Update:
Inter Miami realiza trueque que le permite soñar con Messi y Busquets

Former Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham’s dream of reuniting Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi with his former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets at Inter Miami this coming summer is still alive, especially after transfer dealings carried out by the club on Wednesday.

The Herons, coached by Beckahm’s ex-Manchester United teammate Phil Neville, have recruited Canadian international defender Kamal Miller from CF Montreal, who have taken both Costa Rican forward Ariel Lassiter and promising young midfielder Bryce Duke in return.

General Alloaction Money received by Inter Miami “crucial”

On top of that, Inter Miami have also acquired $1.3 million in General Allocation Money (GAM) which, according to MLS journalist Tom Bogert, could be a huge step in enabling them to sign both Messi and Busquets.

GAM received by Inter Miami will be crucial in the summer moves as they continue to hope for Lionel Messi & Sergio Busquets. Busquets likely won’t be [a] DP [Designated Player]. This allocation money would help fitting him in under [the salary] cap. Even if [the] dream scenario doesn’t happen, they’ll have flexibility”, Bogert tweeted.

Where will Messi play next season?

Inter Miami’s desire to sign Messi has been clear for several months. In recent weeks, the Argentina World Cup-winning captain has been whistled by sections of PSG supporters, which has added fuel to the fire that he won’t continue in the French capital and will look to try his hand elsewhere come the summer.

There have, however, been several reports claiming that Messi’s intention is to stay in Europe for now, at least until the next Copa América, which will take place in the United States in June and July of 2024. And, of course, there is the small matter of an offer on the table from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, which would reportedly see the Argentine earn around $400 million per year.
