David Beckham says Manchester United haven’t had a coach like Michael Carrick in a decade
David Beckham has plenty to worry about with the MLS season just getting underway over the last month, but he still keeps up with his childhood club.

There are a few names that demand respect, attention and consideration whenever they speak about Manchester United. David Beckham is at the top of that list with Wayne Rooney, Alex Ferguson and Roy Keane, among others. Becks spoke about the current coaching situation at the Theater of Dreams.
Best since the Special One
Things are looking up at Old Trafford as of late. One man is responsible for the midseason turnaround and he is the one that Beckham is backing to stay on as manager beyond just the end of this season. Michael Carrick has revived hope, and made the Champions League a real possibility since taking over in January.
Beckham has been unimpressed by the state of affairs over the last decade, and the club has a look of stability and consistency that has been missing for a long time. Speaking with talkSPORT, Becks said, “Yeah, I must admit, the last few months have been a lot more comfortable than the last 10 years, to be honest. It’s been tough over that time. But I think Michael’s got experience. I think he’s got a calmness about him that he’s brought into the club. He knows the club. He knows the players. He knows the way Man United play and the way Man United should play.”

Ten years ago, it was Jose Mourinho who was in charge of the Red Devils. It was a period of transition in the club and the Portuguese manger only lasted two and a half years. In that time he won the EFL Cup, the FA Community Shield, and the UEFA Europa League. Since The Special One left, the club has only won two titles, and EFL Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
Carrick calmness the key say Becks
The current interim manager who is making his case to be the long term coach in Manchester has been there for two and a half months. He has led United to seven wins, two draws and just one loss. United are now third in the table with 55 points, just one ahead of Aston Villa, and six above Liverpool in fifth.
This is Carrick’s second stint at United, although his first was just a caretaker role that he played for a couple weeks before spending three seasons at Middlesborough. ”I’ve always liked Michael as a coach. When you look at him, there’s a calmness. There’s, on the side of the pitch, there’s, I don’t want to say elegance because I’m not sure that’s the right thing to say, but there’s an elegance in the way he is, whether it’s the way he celebrates, whether it’s the way he gets angry.
United have found it hard to fill the shoes of Sir Alex Ferguson since he retired in May of 2013. Since then there have been 12 different changes on the touchline. Beckham thinks Carrick has what it takes to take this club back to where they want to be. “You know, all of those things are important in a manager. And I think that the way he’s got the team and brought the team together has been, has been incredible. And I think as a United fan, it’s exactly what we needed,” said the Inter Miami owner.
