From one Liga MX giant to another: Uruguayan forward set for Clausura 2026 move
Tigres and América have reached a deal that will see striker Rodrigo Aguirre swap Mexico City for Monterrey.
Tigres have reached an agreement to sign striker Rodrigo Aguirre from Club América, with the Uruguayan receiving clearance to travel to Monterrey and finalize his move. The negotiations accelerated in recent hours, allowing both front offices to iron out the remaining details.
Aguirre in, Ibáñez out
The move responds primarily to a request from Tigres head coach Guido Pizarro, who identified Aguirre as a priority target to bolster the team’s attack. According to sources close to the club, the eight-time Mexican champions managed to complete the deal at a favorable price.
Aguirre will now undergo a medical in the Sultana del Norte - the final step before signing his contract with Los Auriazules. Once his arrival is made official, Tigres will begin the process of releasing forward Nicolás Ibáñez, which will open up a roster spot.

Aguirre’s Liga MX journey so far
During his stint with América, Aguirre scored 15 goals in 65 appearances across the Liga MX regular season and playoffs, after joining the club for the Apertura 2024 tournament from Monterrey. His performances established him as a consistent attacking option in Los Azulcremas’ setup.
Before his time with Las Águilas, Aguirre spent two years with Rayados, appearing in 56 official matches and scoring eight goals in the regular season, though he was unable to find the net in postseason play.
The 31-year-old also had a notable spell with Liga MX club Necaxa, after joining Los Rayos in early 2021. Over three Mexican-league tournaments with Necaxa, he recorded 12 goals in 38 matches.
