Good news for soccer in Mexico: Barcelona to launch the Barca Academy Residency in Querétaro

Top soccer talents in Mexico will soon have the opportunity to develop under the Barcelona philosophy, with the LaLiga giants announcing plans to open Barça Academy Residency Querétaro, a residential project in the central Mexican city.

According to a press release on the club’s website, residential summer camps will begin as early as this summer. From October 2026 onward, youngsters will be invited to try out to become part of the first residential program, which will kick off in September 2027.

Those who are successful will live on site throughout the year. Initially, players born in 2012, 2013, and 2014 will be eligible for scholarships.

The club already launched Barça Academy Querétaro, a non-residential project for youngsters between the ages of six and 18, in July 2024.

This will be Barcelona’s second residential project in North America after Barça Academy Residency USA, which launched in Arizona in 2017.

Built on the Barça blueprint

The Catalan giants say the academy will be built on “three fundamental pillars to ensure its development and proper functioning in line with Barça standards.”

Those are:

• Barça’s playing and training methodology, led by a coach from Barcelona “to guarantee the club’s recognisable style of play is taught.”
• The academic education at an international school accredited by the educational authorities of the United States and Canada.
• A top-level residential facility focused on players’ overall development.
