The World Cup hasn’t even kicked off yet, and Club América may already be preparing to say goodbye to one of its Mexican internationals, bound for European soccer.

Reyes reportedly in Rome ahead of Serie A transfer

According to information from TUDN Radio, Israel Reyes is closing in on a move to Serie A club AS Roma. The speculation has intensified in recent days after reports surfaced that the Mexican defender has flown to Italy’s capital.

Earlier this month, Roma emerged as one of the leading clubs interested in securing Reyes’ services, though at the time the story was little more than rumor.

This Wednesday, TUDN confirmed that Reyes was in Rome just days before América is set to begin its playoff campaign in the Liga MX’s Clausura 2026 tournament.

Reyes joined América in 2023 from Puebla and has since made 146 appearances for Los Azulcremas, scoring three goals and providing two assists along the way.

The defender played a key role in América’s historic three-peat under head coach André Jardine, form that earned him a call-up to Javier Aguirre’s Mexican national team.

Ready for the World Cup

Reyes, who has already been confirmed for the 2026 World Cup by Aguirre himself, will report to El Tricolor on May 6. As a result, he will miss the second leg of América’s Clausura 2026 quarterfinals with Pumas, which is scheduled for May 10.
