The 2024 W Gold Cup is about to reach its conclusion, with either the United States Women’s National Team or Brazil to be crowed the first winner of the newly-formed tournament. Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California, will be the venue for the final on Sunday 10 March.

USWNT and Brazil’s routes to the final

The USWNT sneaked through to the showpiece game by defeating Canada on penalties in the semifinals. Jaedyn Shaw and Sophia Smith twice put the Stars and Stripes in front, only for Jordyn Huitema and Adriana Leon, deep into injury time in extra-time, to level the scores. Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher was the hero in the shootout, saving three spot-kicks to send her team into the final.

Brazil, meanwhile, had rather less difficulty against Mexico in the last four, with goals from Adriana Leal da Silva, Antonia and Yasmim Assis Ribeiro sealing a comfortable 3-0 victory.
