Enzo Fernández and Chelsea have made peace, and the player is now expected to return to the team against Manchester City this Sunday – one game before the two-match punishment imposed by the club was due to end. After “breaching the club’s disciplinary code” in the wake of comments in which he appeared open to a move to Real Madrid and cast doubt on his future in London, talks involving the player, his agent, Javier Pastore, and the club led to a reconciliation.

“We’re on the same page with Chelsea. We made peace yesterday. There were never really any problems. We cleared it up. His statement was made with no intention of causing issues at Chelsea. He is the captain, one of the team’s leaders, and he has shown his best form on the field this season,” Pastore told Top Mercato.

Enzo eyeing World Cup form

As we had already reported, Fernández wanted to repair the situation with the club in order to help get things back on track over the final two months of the season. Chelsea need him from a sporting standpoint, and the player needs to be in top shape in order to arrive at the World Cup in the best possible condition.

That would also further raise his value ahead of the summer transfer window, where he is expected to be one of the biggest names on the market. If Chelsea miss out on the Champions League, it is very possible the club will have to put him up for sale, and it would clearly be better for him to leave a strong impression at the end of the season than to finish it at odds with the team paying his salary.

Chelsea and the Argentina international both know it. Playing – and playing well – is the only way to keep alive the interest of Europe’s biggest clubs, including, according to reports, Real Madrid. That is why making peace and returning early against City had become so necessary.
