For Wrexham, the push to make the Championship playoffs begins with a visit to Hawthorns on Good Friday.

Phil Parkinson’s team currently sit seventh - level with Southampton on 63 points. With seven games remaining, there is no realistic chance of catching either of the top two at this stage of the game - Coventry top the table with 80 points and Middlesbrough are just behind in second on 71.

Playoff dream

But a top-six finish, which would secure a place in the playoffs, is well within reach - and that’s the aim. Achieving it starts with beating West Bromwich Albion this weekend.

The Red Dragons head into the game after a mixed run of results. Recent wins against Portsmouth, Swansea City and Sheffield United were offset by defeats to Hull City and Watford.

West Bromwich need a result for very different reasons. They are stuck at the opposite end of the table in 20th, just four points off the drop zone. But the tide could be turning for them - they are unbeaten in their last five outings, with wins against Hull City and Bristol City. They need points just as badly as their opponents.

So it won’t be a simple task for Wrexham. Bearing in mind that West Brom also won the corresponding away fixture - a 2-3 victory at the Racecourse Ground back in August.

For this one, Parkinson will be without the team’s top scorer Kieffer Moore, who is out with a hamstring injury and also missing Matty James (fractured toe), Ben Sheaf (knee) and Libby Cacace (hamstring).

The Baggies have Max O’Leary, Krystian Bielik, Karlan Ahearne-Grant, Michael Johnston, Chris Mepham and Tammer Bany on their injury list.
