Inter Miami are entering their fourth year in Major League Soccer surrounded with a lot of uncertainties regarding their roster. Gonzalo Higuaín retired at the conclusion of last season and the David Beckham-owned franchise are aiming to sign Josef Martínez as his replacement for the 2023 MLS campaign.

“I like him,” said Inter Miami boss Phil Neville. “He looks like someone that’s a machine, that’s hungry, that scores goals, that doesn’t need many chances. So we’re looking to strengthen. For somebody to come into this football club and be a starter, they have to be really good.”

Inter Miami out to become an elite team

Another problem that they are facing is what to do with designated player Rodolfo Pizarro, who returned to Florida after spending 2022 on loan with Liga MX side Monterrey. It seems that Neville is open to giving the 28-year-old an opportunity after a disappointing performance throughout their 2020 expansion season.

Pizarro has one year left on his contract as a designated player, but if he wants to remain at Inter Miami he will most likely be forced to give that spot away. The club is looking to sign one or two DPs for the 2023 campaign.

We see him as a new player,” Neville said when asked about the Mexican international. “I think it’s fair to say in his first season it didn’t go as well as planned for him or for the team. I think the year away was important for him. This is his last year at Inter Miami.

“He loves being at the club, he loves being in the city. He’s coming into a different environment. This is a clean slate. We know his qualities, the biggest challenge for Rodolfo is to get on the team.”
