Inter Milan suffers another blow: Lautaro Martínez out again with a new muscle injury
Inter’s captain, who had just returned from injury against Roma and scored a brace, faces time out once again. He could miss the Coppa semifinal.

Inter Milan has been hit with yet another untimely setback — and once again, it’s one that feels completely avoidable. With the Serie A season entering its decisive stretch and just hours before this weekend’s matchup against Cesc Fàbregas’ surging Como side, the club confirmed a new injury to its captain, Lautaro Martínez.
In an official statement, Inter announced: “Lautaro Martínez underwent medical and diagnostic tests today at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano. The results revealed a mild strain in the soleus muscle of his left leg. The Argentine forward’s condition will be re‑evaluated in the coming days.”

Expected recovery time and matches he’ll miss
Early estimates suggest Martínez will need at least two weeks before returning to action. That rules him out of Inter’s upcoming games against Como and Cagliari, and puts his availability for the Coppa Italia semifinal — also against Como on April 22 — in serious doubt.

Brutal setback after a key performance
The timing couldn’t be worse. Martínez had just returned from more than a month on the sidelines after suffering an injury in the Champions League clash against Bodø/Glimt. His comeback included a crucial brace in Inter’s 5–2 win over Roma, bringing his league tally to 16 goals and 4 assists.
But even during that Roma match, there were warning signs. Subbed on in the second half, Martínez was seen applying ice packs to both his thigh and left calf on the bench. At the time, it was assumed to be precautionary — but it now appears it was the early signal of another muscle issue, one the medical staff began treating immediately.
What it means for Inter
With the season entering its final sprint, Inter now faces:
- A captain sidelined again
- A tight schedule with high‑stakes matches
- A Coppa Italia semifinal looming
- Pressure on manager Cristian Chivu to adjust quickly
Martínez’s absence forces Inter to rethink its attacking structure at a moment when consistency is crucial.
