The former Mexico striker has fueled rumors about his future after leaving Chivas as a free agent following a bitter end to his second spell.

Javier Hernández breaks his silence about his future: is Chicharito retiring?
Javier “Chicharito” Hernández has caused a stir with his latest social media post, in which he sarcastically suggested he was retiring from soccer for good – seemingly anticipating how fans and the media would react.
The video, however, is interrupted by an edit showing some of the greatest moments of his career: his latest goal for Chivas, World Cup strikes, goals in the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid and his Premier League title with Manchester United. It is a remarkable career – and one he says is not over yet.

“See you soon”
Hernández ended his second spell with Chivas Rayadas de Guadalajara as the villain. He missed a penalty in the second leg of the quarterfinal against Cruz Azul which, had he scored, would have sent the team through to the next round. Once the Apertura 2025 tournament ended, Chicharito became a free agent.

Now, his video denying that he is thinking about retirement and hinting that he will soon return comes amid rumors linking Mexico’s all-time leading scorer with Atlante. The Potros de Hierro acquired the place that had belonged to Mazatlán until that semester and will return to the top flight starting with the Apertura 2026 tournament.
The historic Azulgrana club has already confirmed Miguel “Piojo” Herrera as its coach for the long-awaited return to the first division, while details of the squad he will have at his disposal are still being finalized. Herrera and Chicharito previously worked together with the Mexican national team.
