Juárez 4-1 Pumas: Mohamed’s side demolished in Liga MX Apertura 2023 match week 5
Mohamed’s side were thrashed away from home and are now winless in four competitive games.
Pumas were defeated 4-1 away from home against Juárez at the Olímpico Benito Juárez.
After a series of consecutive draws in Liga MX, what felt like a slightly easier tie against Juárez, turned out to be a prolongation of a horrible nightmare for Mohamed and his team. Two penalties against them, a real golazo and another shot into the corner were the four strikes that saw Pumas stumble once again.
The reality is that Juárez knew well how to take advantage of their resources and were decisive when they needed to be. Also, they punished Pumas and their defensive frailties and accepted the gifts the team in white gave them on the pitch. The first goal came from the spot, a handball that was punished by Santiago Ormeño who stuck the ball in the net.
Which players stood out for Pumas?
Pumas put the stumbling blocks behind them every time they went behind, but it was not their day on the northern border.
Diego Campillo sent a rocket into the top corner from the edge of the box and sunk the reaction of Pumas, who were looking for the equaliser, before José García, all alone and with fire in his boots, put the third in the net for Juárez.
César Huerta, who scored a consolation goal for his side, was the standout player for Pumas in a dreary team performance. The player did not stop running forwards and backwards, firing crosses into the box and shooting when he could. But Los Bravos, who camped in their own half for long periods, knew that the goals would come without much effort given the defensive weaknesses of the side led by Mohamed.
Who do Pumas play against next?
And then, when González took down Avilés Hurtado in the box, penalty number two led to goal number four and a true thrashing for the side from Ciudad Universitaria. The Colombian put away the penalty to sink the spirits of his opponents and to make matters worse, they go up against Tigres, the current champions, in their next game. Juárez, meanwhile, will sleep easily in second place in the table.
