Liga MX giants Club América disrupted by Kanye West
The controversial rapper's concert puts the Eagles' next home game in jeopardy.
Club América are one of the biggest names in Mexican soccer but they will be forced to share the stage later this month.
The 16-time Liga MX champions look set to rearrange an upcoming fixture to avoid clashing with a Kanye West concert in Mexico City.
América are scheduled to host Necaxa in a Liga MX game at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes on Saturday, January 31. That same night, Kanye West will be playing a much-anticipated concert at the neighboring Plaza de toros Monumental de México.
The two venues are so close that local regulations prevent them from hosting major events simultaneously. As such, a change needs to be made.
Club América forced to change for Kanye
Kanye West has not performed in Mexico since 2008 and the controversial rapper is expected to be a major draw. Reports in Mexico suggest that the Liga MX game will have to be rearranged to ensure that there is no overlap but it’s not immediately clear what the new scheduling will be.
At time of writing, the Liga MX website has not shown any changes to the game’s initial 9:00pm start time. A decision will be made in the coming days to ensure that both events can proceed as planned.
The América - Necaxa game is one of five games scheduled for January 31. América have had a difficult start to the 2026 Apertura, with two draws and one loss from their first three games.
Kanye has two dates in Mexico City as part of his 2026 schedule, before heading to India for performances in April.
